The Morning Blend TMJ4 Appearance
A quick look at what we do for hungry children in Waukesha County.
In August 2012, 12 women gathered to start a self-funded local chapter of the national organization Blessings in a Backpack. One member, Linda Broyles, had read about the organization in People magazine, and realized there was a need for the program right here in Waukesha County. Every person in attendance agreed to participate, each contributing $100. That money, along with an additional $1000 donated by one of the womens' husband, got the chapter off the ground. Within days, the group was in touch with the principal from Hadfield Elementary School and the work to feed hungry children began. Today we are glad to say that we have expanded to four schools, arriving every Friday to do what's most important: feed hungry kids.
With over 4,600 children in Waukesha County eligible for free or reduced lunches, the group wants to continue to grow, so that we can reach more of the hungry kids right in our own backyard. To do so, we need the continued help of volunteers for bag filling, Friday morning distribution, and planning our next annual fundraising event.
